An alternative to the big AI APIs

OpenAI, Anthropic's Claude and Google's Gemini sell tokens: every request adds to the bill, and an agent that runs all day runs a tab all day. The Context Club sells seats: a flat weekly price ($10 to $40) for open-source models behind the same kind of API. Here's the trade, plainly.

Two ways to pay

With a pay-as-you-go API, price follows use. That's ideal when use is small or spiky, and it's how every big provider charges. It also means nobody can tell you what a month costs: leave three agents working overnight and the meter runs while you sleep.

A club seat turns that around. Every day brings priority tokens, which answer fastest. When they run out, requests carry on in the standard queue, slower but with no daily limit, so the week costs what the week always costs. Heavy days don't cost more; they just spend more of their time in the standard queue.

When the big APIs are the better choice

Honestly: often. If you need the strongest model available for hard reasoning, OpenAI's and Claude's frontier models are ahead of anything open-source, and the club doesn't claim otherwise. If your use is occasional, pay-as-you-go is cheaper than any subscription. And if you need contractual uptime, a small members' club isn't offering that.

The club fits when the model is good enough for the work — drafting, coding with review, agents that grind through long tasks — and what hurts is the meter. The models page shows exactly what runs, and members vote on what runs next.

Switching is one setting

Point any tool that speaks the OpenAI API at the club's base URL with your key, and keep your workflow. The API page has the address, the limits and code to copy.
